Hi everyone-
Theresa is a first time mom, experiencing many breast changes to accommodate her baby Mya, which eventually lead to concern that all of these changes weren't just pregnancy/breast feeding related. On November 15, Theresa was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer at the age of 31. This unexpected journey will not only be physically and emotionally challenging for the Cordova family, but also financially. Not only will the medical bills be significant, but due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and Theresa's health care career as a CT technologist, she is unable to work for the foreseeable future while undergoing treatment. We will provide updates throughout her journey at the bottom of this page.

Update 1/16/2022:
After the initial diagnosis of breast cancer, Theresa underwent many tests/scans to hopefully have a diagnosis of low stage cancer. Unfortunately, these tests came back showing that the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes, liver and bone, leading to the stage 4 diagnosis.
With no family history of breast cancer, this especially came as a shock. More testing has since shown that she has no genetic mutation to increase her chances of breast cancer. The doctors believe this has been purely hormonal driven, starting in pregnancy due to the significant increase in hormones. **If you are pregnant, or recently pregnant, and feel any new lumps and are questioning if it is normal or not, PLEASE talk to your doctor**
Currently, Theresa is undergoing chemotherapy. She is HER2+ which essentially means they can do more aggressive chemo and target the cancer cells better. This treatment can be hard on the heart, so they are monitoring that periodically. So far, she has completed three rounds of chemo. The plan right now is to do six rounds of chemo and continue on with hormone targeted treatments. They have recently done an echocardiogram to check on her heart, which is doing well. They are going to do restaging scans on February 22 to assess how the cancer is responding to treatment.
So far, Theresa is doing well with the chemo treatments. She has been increasingly tired and sore after each one, but staying as positive as possible!
