On Father’s Day my dad, Corey Martin, had a heart attack. A lot of damage was done to his heart but he received treatment and was able to go home with my grandparents for some time. He began experiencing complications and set backs from that damage and returned to the hospital. On Sunday 7/10 his condition suddenly and rapidly deteriorated. During this time I tried to arrange travel for me and Grayson to Nebraska to be with him. But I wasn’t able to make it in time. My father unexpectedly passed away on 7/11 at 2:30am at the age of 49. He never got to meet his grandson.
Growing up my dad was my best friend. We did everything together. He was a single father but did everything he could for us. Everyone loves being around my father and his sense of humor. The man was constantly full of jokes. He was dropping one liners and making the nurses laugh until the very end; they all made sure to tell me how funny he was and how much they enjoyed caring for him.
I am his only child. My grandparents had to unexpectedly say goodbye to their other son last year as well. I couldn’t allow them to pay for their last sons burial expenses as well. They themselves are not in great health and this has been difficult on them. Losing both sons in the span of nearly a year. I am not the type of person to ask for help. Ever. But while trying to cope with this sudden loss and being the only parent and provider for my son I don’t know how I am going to do this alone. If anyone could help, no matter how small, it would mean the world to me and my family.
My father is going to be an organ donor and they said it’s estimated he will be able to touch 100 different lives through his gift of donation. Every penny raised will be going directly to the expenses of transporting and cremating him after his donations.
