Corfu Cats neutering fund

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Tracey. I am a Mum of two from Hertfordshire, England. I am crazy about cats and wish to raise funds for the cats in Corfu starting with the resort of Benitses........

Recently, I went on hoiday with my daughter, Katie, to Benitses on the island of Corfu. We didn't expect to see so many beautiful, friendly cats and certainly didn't expect for one in particular to steal our hearts but that's what happened. We named her Angelica. She was probably about 6 months old and had relied on the kindness of the holidaymakers to feed and fuss her. She craved our attention and was pretty persistent....sitting outside our door, racing us up to the apartment to see if she could get in the door before us, snuggling up on the sunbed with us, she was absolutely adorable. The day before we were due to fly home I decided that I wanted to bring her to the UK and give her a better life. The thought of her trying to survive the winter, having multiple pregnancies and, no doubt, a short life. I couldn't let that happen.

Unfortunately, there didn't appear to be anyone that could help me with my quest and we left the island downhearted. I couldn't forget her and came across a facebook page by the name of Corfu Cats. I asked if there was anyone that could help me find her, this is not as ridiculous as it sounds as if you have visited Corfu you will know that the cats stay in the same group and the same area. A lovely lady called Dawn Dodson got in touch and said she'd go and look for me. Sadly, she could not find her.

I decided to return to Benitses with my Mum, Gill, this time and see for myself. Angelica was nowhere to be seen but all the other cats were there plus some new tiny additions, one of which died while we were there and the others probably won't have the strength or resources to make it either. The situation is heartbreaking.....the females will keep getting pregnant, the kittens will be born with defects through interbreeding, disease will be passed from mother to kitten, many will die.

As I could not help Angelica, my dream is to raise enough money to neuter all the females, treat all the cats for worms and fleas, give veterinary care when needed, provide food throughout the winter months and give them the life they deserve. Dawn is a volunteer for Agni Welfare and is heavily involved with their neutering programme. She and her husband, Geoff, are an amazing couple and have kindly agreed to help with what is needed. My Mum and I will be funding the first lot to be neutered and this will take place soon.

If you love cats and/or you love Corfu please, please donate and help the cats of Benitses (and beyond - dreaming big here!) lead happy and healthy lives.

I will be returning at the beginning of the season to see the cats and, who knows, Angelica may even show her pretty face to see what she has started........
