Cork IronMan 2023 in aid of Motor Neurone Disease

This Sunday August 20th, I will be competing in the Cork Ironman in aid of The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association.

For those who don’t know, a full distance Ironman consists of a 3.8km swim, a 180.2km cycle and a marathon 42.2km run, consecutively in that order. I began training in January and so far have swam, cycled and ran over 3200km in preparation for the day.

I’ve decided to raise money for IMNDA, an organisation that is very close to my heart having lost my mum to the disease in 2006. Motor neurone disease (MND) is a rare condition that progressively damages parts of the nervous system.

The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA) is the only organisation of its kind in the country providing specialised services to families affected by this terminal condition. The Association cannot slow the progression of MND or change the outcome but can alleviate the feelings of isolation and frustration, offering vital services and support to approximately 400 families across Ireland who otherwise would have nowhere else to turn.

The brave individuals fighting this terrible illness are doing so knowing there is no cure. I watched my mum fight this illness for nearly 2 years with everything she had, knowing she couldn’t win. This race is for all those who are currently in a battle that they cannot win, but are fighting with everything they have

If you could please support me with either a like, comment, share or donation I would be so greatful.

Matt
