Cornelius Medical Bill

Donation protected
A couple days after thanksgiving (11/29/14), my twin brother's dog/best friend, Cornelius, was hit by a car. I received several calls from different family members of what had happened.  I rushed over to the hospital were we learned that Cornelius had broken his hip in several places.

Cornelius needed to be transported to another hospital in Los Angeles to perform the surgery.  As expected, the procedure was quite costly, over $8,000.  Without a second thought, my brother took out a line of credit so Cornelius would hopefully walk again. After the surgery and a couple of days in the hospital, my brother (Jason) was able to take Cornelius home.

The road to recovery was on its way and it was going to be a long journey. He showed signs of pain, but kept a smile on his face and a wag in his tail.  My brother took the whole week off from work so he would be able to be with his best friend.  Unfortunately, things would turn for the worst for Cornelius.

On Friday (12/5/14), Jason had to rush Cornelius to the pet emergency hospital.  Cornelius was becoming sick and breathing heavily, which was not a good sign.   The doctor said that he had to go through an emergency surgery to try and figure out what the problem was.  Costing an additional $3,000, Jason went ahead and took out another line of credit.

The doctor explained to my brother the different possibilities why Cornelius was getting worst.  He also stated that Cornelius only had 50% chance of surviving.  My brother wanted to do everything he can, so he can take his best friend home.  We were able to see Cornelius before he went into surgery.  As we all had our time with him, I told him "you have to get better, you have to get better".  With tear in Jason's eyes, he said "I love you bud".

We went home as instructed by the hospital and we waited for there call on the status of Cornelius.  Jason received a call from the doctor that night before they were going into surgery.  He received a call 15 minutes later from the doctor saying that Cornelius did not make it, his heart was to weak from an infection in his body that was caused by a rupture in his rectum.  As anyone can expect, we were all shocked and devastated by this news.  As I grabbed and hugged my brother, he broken down and completely lost it.  It was one of the saddest moments of my life.  I could only imagine how he felt.

Jason is now $11,000 in debt, with nothing to show for it.  He lost the most important animal in his life.  Cornelius was a happy dog, he waged his tail every time he saw you, and always wanted to be next to my brother.   Everyone loved him, he made you feel better, no matter what mood you were in.  Cornelius was only a Year and a half.

As you read this story, I hope you find it your heart to donate.  As the holidays right around the corner, this is most difficult time to lose someone.  I know Cornelius is in doggie heaven looking after Jason, with a smile in his face and a wag in his tail.
