Lap of Cornwall for Chae Jenkins and Cornwall Mind
Donation protected
Hi, and welcome to my fundraising page.
In June of 2021, I will set off on a 250-mile round trip of Cornwall on foot. Starting in Bude, I will make my way down the north coast of Cornwall, before heading East along the south coast. Along the way, I will be visiting each and every rugby club in the County.
With the walk set to take around three weeks to complete, I plan to keep the cost of my journey low by using club facilities for accommodation. I’ll also be documenting my journey on Facebook.
I decided to take on this challenge to raise money for two deserving causes. Firstly, I’m raising money for Chae Jenkins, a friend of mine who is currently battling the toughest of physical health challenges. The second cause I am supporting is Cornwall Mind, a mental health charity based in Cornwall.
Here’s a bit of background on the two causes:
Chae Jenkins
I met Chae Jenkins in 2017 during my first year of study at Truro College. We were both part of the Rugby Academy program, and it didn’t take me long to realise that Chae was one of the people at the heart and soul of the team. He was consistently one of the funniest, most-likeable people around, as well as being a great rugby player! As well as being a central figure in the Cornish All Blacks team, Chae also represented Cornwall in their U20s endeavours. He was part of the side that made it to the Championship final at Twickenham in 2018
Last season, Chae underwent procedures to lengthen his right leg. Unfortunately, since then Chae received news that he has a tumour on his brain. Following a biopsy in March 2020, he received confirmation that the tumour is stage 1 cancer (Astrocytoma). Chae began Chemo and Radio therapy in May- the first of six 4-weekly treatment cycles.
As you can imagine, the last few months have been nothing short of a struggle for Chae and his family. I will be raising money to support them as they continue to battle through this tough experience.
Cornwall Mind
With one in four people experiencing a mental health problem in Cornwall today, Cornwall Mind provide an essential service to those struggling with their own personal battles.
Cornwall Mind (formerly Carrick and Restormel Mind) is a Cornwall-based charity that provides a range of wellbeing services for people who experience mental health problems. The charity was formed in 2019, but both Carrick and Restormel Mind have been supporting people for over 26 years.
As a young person living in Cornwall, I’ve seen the effects that mental health problems can have on those suffering with them. For me, it is an honour to be able to raise money for the benefit of the local community.
Thank you.
Thanks for reading! I’ll be updating this as I get closer to the walk itself. For now, any donation you can give would be amazing. I’d like to say a big thanks to Chae and Maggie for their support for this walk, to David Saunter of the Cornish RFU for his help, and to Lewis Rogers for his awesome logo design!
