Coronavirus relief for David & Stephanie Viverette

On June 11, 2020, our parents, David and Stephanie Viverette, lives dramatically changed. David went to the emergency room because he felt ill, he had a temperature and a “sinus infection”. He tested positive for COVID-19. He was admitted to the hospital where he started having shortness of breath and coughing. On Sunday June 14, the hospital called to tell us that our dad needed to be put on a ventilator due to his fatigue of trying to breath. My mom, Carrie, and I were able to FaceTime him prior to being sedated. We reassured him that we all love him very much and that he will get well soon.

The following week our mom started having a temperature, coughing, and shortness of breath. She was tested several times for COVID19 but the test kept coming back negative. She was taken to the same emergency room. She was admitted on Saturday June 20. Over that weekend she began to get weaker and weaker and harder to breath. They moved her to ICU, where dad was, for more observation and more oxygen. On that following Monday, I received a call that she needed to be sedated and placed on a ventilator as well. Being that Carrie and I were not near each other; I was able to do a conference call to mom’s cell phone with Carrie so we could tell her we loved her and that she will get better. On Monday, she tested positive for COVID-19.

On June 26, Dad got airlifted to UNC-Chapel Hill, due to having some other complications from this virus. Mom is still at the local Hospital.

As of July 5, Dad has been taken off the ventilator and his breathing is good with only minimal oxygen required. He is still very disoriented and confused. He is having other organ complications as well. He is still in the MICU and still testing positive for COVID-19. Dad stayed on a ventilator for a total of 14 days. Mom is still on a ventilator now at 13 days. Both are making improvements, but at a slow pace. Each day we are getting a little good news.

Between the hospital and rehab, Dad and mom have an extremely long road ahead of them. With not only trying to keep their lives going here at home; between both of them; with all the medications they have received and being on ventilators, they will have accrued well over $1 millions in medical bills. Hoping that insurance will pay most, but we know there will be lots of expenses left over.

Having one parent in the hospital is hard enough but having both in there and on ventilators is extremely hard. Carrie and I have been keeping all this to ourselves and trying to cope with everything with each other.

This couple right here are not just our parents, they are loved by many in our small town. These two still work full time jobs. They have 3 wonderful grandchildren: Miller (5), Wyatt (4), & Carlee (4 months). They are very young and still have a lot of life to live. They did not deserve this. Dad is a retired volunteer firefighter of 30 yrs. He loved volunteering his time and helping others. Now its time that we show love for them and help them out. We love our parents very much and want them to come home very soon.
