Corrine’s Cancer Battle
When you think of the words strong, independent and selfless, her name comes to the minds of all who know her. Corrine has spent her life taking care of others’ needs before her own. Whether it is her siblings from a young age, her children and grandchildren, her father at his old age, countless friends and family members or just the little old man who happened to live above the family business who needed help with daily tasks. She was there, without a question. Her strong sense of family and positive outlook poured into everyone who was around her. Never once asking for a thank you or anything in return. Married to the love of her life, Dave, for 40 years, mother to 2 children and Nana to 4 grandchildren, she truly is a loved and an amazing person.
Unfortunately, life doesn’t play fair. Corrine was diagnosed with Stage 1 colon cancer in 2019 after an abnormal colonoscopy. Being the strong woman that she is, she and her family wanted to attack this diagnosis aggressively and she underwent a partial colectomy including 11 surrounding lymph nodes. Post-surgical results were extremely positive. Corrine was cancer free with all tissue removed testing negative for cancer. However, routine follow up scans and blood work were not so favorable. They showed the heartbreaking reality that a lot of cancer patients face, metastasis. Corrine was now diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic colon cancer in her liver. This news was devastating.
Corrine, being only 60 years young, has a lot of life left to live and was ready and willing to attack this horrible disease head on. She began infusion and chemotherapy in December 2019 and will continue this protocol every 3 weeks. The side effects of these treatments have only allowed her to tolerate work 1 week a month, if she was strong enough even for that. While treatment hopefully can be life-saving, it is most certainly financially draining. There will be and have been many medical expenses not covered by insurance including co-pays, costly chemotherapy medications, symptom related medication, and cost of surgical procedures on top of everyday home expenses. In addition to the burden this horrible diagnosis has put on Corrine and her family, her husband Dave was diagnosed with duel neurological conditions transverse myelitis in 2010 and multiple sclerosis in 2015. These diseases come with expensive medications, appointments, and imaging scans. Due to the extreme debilitating nature of these 2 conditions, Dave has not been able to work in 4 years and is currently receiving just a small amount of disability assistance.
To help offset treatment and life expenses, a fundraising campaign in Corrine’s honor has been established through GoFundMe. Your support is extremely important in making Corrine’s prospects for the future much brighter and allow her to enjoy her time with her family and friends. If you are unable to donate monetarily, we please ask that you help us with your thoughts, prayers and love. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support and generosity. Please know that your contribution counts!
