Cortez Rice is a political prisoner

On November7th a group of protesters staged a protest outside the apartment building which the believe the judge presiding over the pending Kim Potter trial was living. The purpose of this protest was to ensure the voice of the people was heard because the judge had ordered no cameras in the courtroom. During this protest, Cortez Rice, who is not only an activist but a leader in the movement and well known in Minneapolis, went up to the floor believed to be the floor the judge lived on. The entire time Cortez was live streaming on Facebook, a clear indication that he had no nefarious or malicious intent. After verifying the apartment number was on that floor he stuck his head out the window to ensure the protesters down below could be heard. After this Cortez left the floor, all of this can be seen on the recorded FB live video. Right wing radicals on social media used screen recordings of this live to make egregious and untrue claims about Cortez, stating he was attempting to intimidate the judge. This couldn't be further from the truth because at no point did he make contact with or attempt to make contact with the judge, and he was on a public social media platform livestreaming the entire time.

Then while driving through Wisconsin on December 1st, Cortez was pulled over for allegedly speeding and during that traffic stop was informed he had a warrant in Minnesota. Cortez had no idea there was a warrant and found out the warrant had been signed late afternoon on November 24th, the day before thanksgiving. The timing alone on that warrant is suspicious. The criminal complaint against him claims that the judge believes he was trying to intimidate her. Therefore this entire warrant is over an opinion, and despite our law stating you are innocent until proven guilty, Cortez is in jail right now as if he was already guilty of another person's PERCEPTION.

The Kim Potter trial jury selection just started this week and the trial will start soon. It is blatantly obvious why they waited until now to issue a warrant and arrest Cortez, to keep him from leading protest and demanding accountability and justice for Daunte Wright, during this trial. This is the justice system weaponizing itself to silence a voice of the people. We cannot allow this to happen. Cortez needs financial support to make sure that he can get the right people to beat this erroneous charges and not allow his voice to be silenced.
