What is Cosmic Entanglement?
Cosmic Entanglement is an interactive art installation - a jungle gym formed with a web of ropes hanging above the ground, inviting BRC citizens to express their inner monkeys by climbing, walking, and hanging on the ropes in the spirit of connection and play. At night, special lighting turns the scene into a galactic nebula, entangles the monkeys and teleports them into the mystery of the night lights.
Who's behind this?
Hi there, my name is Valerie. I am the creator of Cosmic Entanglement. Building an art installation for Burning Man has been my dream for many years. This year, the vision is finally becoming a reality. Alongside me, is a crew of talented builders, engineers, and light artist who have come together to bring this project to life.

From Thailand to Nevada
The first prototype of this project was created at a small local burn on the island of Koh Phangan, Thailand in 2020. At that time, called Ancient Entanglement, the installation was set up in the jungle using trees to web the ropes, allowing 250 burners to play and connect.
This year, we are excited to bring the upgraded version of the installation to Black Rock City and its 70,000 citizens.
The Structure
The biggest challenge of this project has been to re-create the trees in the middle of the desert. After many iterations, we have finalized the design of the structure using 8' tall wooden utility poles. Each pole will be secured independently with guylines and ground anchors. Static nylon climbing ropes will be used to create a fun and dynamic web that allows participants to play and climb on. A specially-designed lighting system will transform the installation into an outer-space experience at night.
Where does the money go?
Almost all the funds are going towards purchasing materials. The pole structure is the biggest expense (costing around $2000 including the utility poles, fabrication of metal base plates & caps and ground anchors). The rest includes lighting, power, ropes, steel cables, transportation, and other miscellaneous supplies. We do our best in keeping the costs low while considering safety and redundancy.
Thank you for your support!
