Cost of Freedom’s Life-Saving Surgery
Donation protected
Million dollar earner Cost of Freedom, whom was claimed and retired in December of 2013, suffered a bout with colic on Wednesday morning and needed life-saving emergency surgery to remove stones from his intestines.
Cost of Freedom has been spending the past nine years on acreage in the outskirts of Temecula, California with four other retired thoroughbreds and John Malone, a clocker at Santa Anita and Del Mar racetracks who initially got the ball rolling on Freedom’s retirement after he ran in a claiming race for $8,000 at Hollywood Park. The feel-good story generated a lot of interest in the racing community, shone a light on thoroughbred retirement, and showcased one of the many positive stories in racing that can oftentimes go unnoticed.
The surgery to save Freedom’s life is estimated to be between $8,000 and $10,000. We are hoping to bring the racing community together once more and would appreciate donations of any amount to help offset the cost of the veterinary bills.
Thank you for any support given and we are and will always continue to be grateful for the community’s shared love of this retired champion.
