Costa Rica 2024 Camp International

I am 17 and I am fundraising to go on a once-in-a-lifetime experience to help the people and improve the environment of Costa Rica while broadening my horizons and taking my first steps towards studying Marine Biology. I will be going in the Summer of 2024 with Camp International along with a group of like-minded students from Sidmouth College, Sidmouth UK, and hope that you will help me.

Costa Rica is in Central America and is known for its sprawling rainforests which make up more than 50% of the country with over 25% in conservation. There are more than 500,000 species of animals that make their habitat in this beautiful biodiverse country.

Due to my interest in studying Marine Biology, I wish to go to Costa Rica where I will spend 4 weeks working alongside local people, learning about innovative and sustainable solutions to environmental issues and getting involved in inspiring projects to support the environment, wildlife and community.

Along with the conservation and environmental work, I will also be involved in vital community development projects to help improve infrastructure within the village. This could include building communal structures for community events or other important facilities to be used by locals.

What interests me most about this trip is when we will be living in the heart of one of the world’s most biodiverse regions whilst helping to contribute to important conservation work. The Ostinonal Wildlife Refuge is world-famous and protects millions of turtles that nest there. I am so excited to be helping protect these beautiful and majestic creatures. To assist with this I will be completing my PADI Open Water Dive Qualification while on the trip.
