Cougar Racing - FSAE at University of Houston 2025
Donation protected
Hi!
We are Cougar Racing, the Society of Automotive (SAE) team at the University of Houston. We offer students invaluable real-world experience in automotive engineering, manufacturing, and business through participation in the SAE international collegiate design series. As a student-led organization, we provide industry-level exposure, facilitate interactions with professionals, organize networking events, and engage with the automotive community through car meets and engineering facility tours. Our primary objective is to design and manufacture a race car for participation in the annual Formula SAE International Competition. This endeavor equips our members with essential skills and knowledge for their future careers while competing at local and national stages.
Formula SAE competition sees students spend a full year designing, manufacturing, and validating a race car. Students who participate in FSAE are highly sought-after by companies in the automotive/mobility industry and many other industries.
The Cougar Racing team is composed of over 50 active student members. Through the funding goal we have set, we are striving to provide the means necessary for our students to continue to see all of their hard work come to life and ultimately fund the trip to compete on the international competition stage this upcoming May in Brooklyn, Michigan.
Please note that SAE International is a 501(c)(3) Organization, and as a result donating to our team is tax deductible. Further details can be found below.
Funding Needs
Like other forms of car racing, participating in Formula SAE comes with significant expenses. Despite its costliness, the investment is undeniably justified by the invaluable rewards and experiences it offers to the participating students.
Cougar Racing has an ambitious budget goal this year of $30,000. This number is still nowhere near the impressive budgets of some of the teams we compete against every year. However, achieving this goal will allow us, using our seasoned money saving skills, to produce a race car that could have a real chance at competing with the best teams out there.
Some of the expenses we are seeking funding for this year include:
Operational:
- Competition Registration - $2,800
- Team Hotel & Travel - $4,900
- Shop Rent - $3,780
Building the car:
- Chassis - $ 1,200
- Wheels & Tires - $5,000
- Hardware & Fasteners - $1,000
- Differential - $2,800
Any funds raised during this campaign that go above our stated goal amount will be allocated toward our stretch goal of $15,000 and any funds not used during the car build or competition trip this year will be set aside for those students who we will pass the Cougar Racing torch to next season.
