Courageous Wyatt's Recovery

Stephanie and Joseph lead one of the most caring and loving families I know. We had the blessing of getting to know them as they both taught at our daughter's school. Their sweet smiles and incredible way with kids from birth to elementary school make them such special people to so many in our community. Right now, they are going through something no parents should have to face, questions why their son was brutally attacked trying to help others. They are spending day after day with Wyatt's father Jason in the hospital praying for good news about 17 year old Wyatt who arrived in a medically induced coma to help save his life.
Here's the beginning from Stephanie's personal page (10.18.15):
Last night, Wyatt attempted to break up a fight. He was rewarded by being hit from behind in the back of his head on the right side. When he went to his knees, he was repeatedly kicked in the left side of his face/head until he lost consciousness. EMT/paramedics witnessed seizures on the scene so Wyatt was put into a "coma", intubated and taken to MCOM.
He was given a cat scan where a 6mm frontal lobe bleed was discovered. He was set up for transfer to MCOP. Once there he was given another cat scan. The bleed was unchanged which was promising.
Around 10am they decided to attempt to take him off sedation. That resulted in seizure like activity. He was immediately resedated and sent for an EEG. The EEG didn't show swelling in the brain which is a good thing.
We let him rest a while.
Around 3pm we decided to try again to take him off sedation. It began much better than the first attempt. He lay peacefully while we talked to him and tried to get responses. He was doing so well it was decided to turn the vent off. He breathed on his own for 20min!!! We didn't get him to respond or open his eyes but him breathing on his own was still a win. After about 20min it all went to hell. He began thrashing and trying to get up. Then he decided he didn't want to breathe anymore. Sedation was set back and the vent was turned back on. He was also given pain medicine in a drip.
I spent the next hour apologizing to my baby. I never want to see him like that again.
It was decided he will remain sedated the rest of tonight. A cat scan will take place around 6am and as long as the bleed has not grown we will attempt to wake him up again about 730am.
Thank you all for understanding my lack of response throughout the day. And thank you so much for your continued prayers. Please keep them coming.
Please pray that God covers him in healing tonight and the morning will bring good news.

Cat scan came back. The bleed hasn't grown which is good news. His is much more swollen today which breaks this Mama's heart but his vitals are great and his pupils are more responsive.
C'mon Bubba! Wake up!

The vent is out. My baby woke up. And he's breathing on his own. He knows his name and who we are. He is confused, scared, angry and in a lot of pain.
He's sleeping now. Please keep the prayers coming. For not only physical but emotional healing.

Bubba passed his swallow test! He is a motivated strong willed boy.
He is still out of it more than not and is asking the same questions over and over but that's normal for now.
Keep praying for physical and emotional healing. He's having a hard time grasping what has happened.

This morning he drifted between sleep and awake. I got to have a few brief conversations with him that were very promising.
The afternoon was filled with therapists. The first was the swallow test and he did great. Starting with purée today and graduating some tomorrow. That was followed by OT. He did great with limb movement. Unfortunately he is having a little trouble with vision. PRAY THAT THIS IS TEMPORARY AND EASILY CORRECTED WITH THERAPIES, REST and TIME. Finally the PT came in. My Baby Boy WALKED!!!! And he did GOOD. Poor baby was worn out after that! I got and "I love you Mom" as he drifted off. I anticipate and hope that he will rest/sleep the rest of the night. Please keep the prayers coming as we continue with therapists tomorrow and look more into the neurological side.
We on team Wyatt are thrilled at the progress he is making. The amount of people lifting him up in prayer is astounding.
As you can imagine, the emotional stress of worry and hope are very high. Please continue to keep Wyatt in your prayers as well as Stephanie, Joseph, Jason, and the rest of their sweet family. On top of that, Steph and Jason are missing work to be by this sweet boy's side, and the tests and procedures the hospital is doing is adding up quickly. Please donate if you can to this incredible family who gives so much to say many each and every day.
