Courtney Kidd was born with 5 Complex Congenital Heart Defects. She has had 7 major heart surgeries since birth including a Heart and Liver Transplant at Mayo Clinic 4 years ago.  She has also had several pacemaker surgeries, a Hemorrhagic stroke (massive brain bleed) resulting in Traumatic Brain Injury at age 12.  This resulted from a complication from heart surgery requiring 2 brain surgeries. Her stroke left her paralyzed on her right side requiring her to relearn to walk, to use her right arm and to relearn to speak. She has had ongoing seizures (one occurring at ONU during finals). She beat all the odds and went on to pursue a college education and graduate from Olivet Nazarene University.

Courtney was doing Wonderful and enjoying her second chance at Life after her Heart and Liver transplant. She had just said that she had never felt this Amazing in her entire life!  She was in the process of getting her foster care license and was engaged to be married when she became ill.

As many of you know Courtney's dad took her to Mayo 3 weeks ago for a biliary stent in her liver. 3 weeks later it occluded again. Courtney and her mom went back the next week and they put 2 new stents in. While at Mayo they received devastating news on September 5th, 2019.  After many, many tests including a PET scan they were told Courtney has end stage, high grade, malignant cancer. It is inoperable and aggressive. It has spread to her liver, pancreas and small intestines. We have been waiting 7 days for final biopsy results. Mayo called Friday to say after hundreds of stains they are not able to differentiate what type of cancer it is other than it is sarcoma like, called a sarcomatoid, but they can't tell what type. Mayo has never seen this type of cancer and can't identify it. Courtney and her mom are going back to Mayo tomorrow to see if they can offer any treatment. Mayo can't give her a prognosis because they aren't able to identify the cancer.

We are devastated and heartbroken but we have Faith and Hope knowing that if given the chance Courtney will fight this with all she has. She's been such a fighter her entire life and has always said that she loves to prove the doctors wrong.  We pray God will grant her one more chance to fight. We are are not without Hope. We have Hope in our hearts. We are filled with Love and are Blessed with Gods Grace. We chose to find the Joy in each day. To see the Light in the darkness. We are trying to live in the present. This journey is going to take a miracle for Courtney, and we know this, but we also know God has Blessed Courtney with many miracles throughout her lifetime. She is an inspiration to many, and her faith has never wavered. We can't help but think God is not done with her story yet. We pray for comfort, for God's Mercy and for strength for whatever the upcoming weeks and months may hold for Courtney and our family.

They are packing for Mayo as if they will be staying there for many months. Her mother is a registered nurse who just finished her own 9 month cancer battle. Her disability ran out at the beginning of August 2019. She doesn't qualify for family medical leave because she hadn't been at her place of employment long enough before she went on leave for her own cancer.  She was scheduled to return to work this upcoming week but will now be on an indefinite leave. Many have asked what they can do to help, so we have created this account.  Courtney and her mom could use financial help to assist with their ongoing medical, housing and living expenses while away in Rochester, Minnesota. The family appreciates your help more than words can express. It allows her mom to be Courtney's caregiver and remain at her side.

Thank you to all of you who have followed Courtney's story for these past few years and for loving and supporting us through this difficult journey.  Please help us to bombard the Heavens with prayers! We are calling on all the Angels to help protect and guide us throughout this next journey.
