Cover bills, travel & medical expenses

2 weeks ago Conway had a massive stroke and was taken by ambulance from the St Marys hotel (the old Rex) to Nepean hospital.

The swelling got worse over a few days so they had to remove part of his skull to relieve the pressure and he spent a week in ICU.

He’s now in the stroke ward A11D at Nepean.

The stroke occurred in the part of the brain that affects mobility. He’s speech is still very slurred and he’s still bed ridden. They have started rehab but it will be a long road to any sort of recovery they have said at least 4 months in hospital at this stage and they can’t give an accurate prognosis of how much damage the stroke has caused yet until they do more tests and more rehabilitation.

He is a construction worker so it seems unlikely at this stage that he will be able to return to work.

Janice (his sister) has been driving from Newcastle and back about 3 times per week to check in with him and be at his side when possible, while being a single mum working full time, the costs of travel can be up to $150 per trip plus tolls and hospital parking and she has seen $450-$500 cover just that alone, and now having to face the cost of handling the rent for Conway until we know if he is able to be back in his home or not is sitting at $480 per week, plus a good clean up is desperately needed requiring a skip bin at a average of $1000.

Other expenses are the Ambulance $500

Debts he had that still need to be paid $3000 ish.

This is a huge financial toll for one person to take and we refuse to let her take it on alone and she would never ask anyone for any help but is the most generous person I know and we want to see Conway back on his feet and have a place to live still and not have a huge bill to face at the end of it all.

Until we know more about his prognosis, there’s still the unknown cost of medical cost to factor in too, hopefully this can also help cover some of those expenses.
