Cover legal costs for climate protest trial
Donation protected
In August 2022 I took part in a protest against the continued development of the fossil fuel industry in the UK. Myself and 4 others occupied Grays oil terminal in Essex, climbing up into the pipes of the loading bay and refusing to leave until removed by police - https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/08/23/watch-just-stop-oil-protesters-infiltrate-essex-fuel-depot/
I now have my trial coming up, facing a charge of aggravated trespass. Despite my financial situation already being dire as it is, my legal aid application was rejected. In order to have representation in court in two weeks I need to raise £3000.
As our government continues to perpetuate the climate crisis and crack down on those of us that are taking action to fight this, I beg you to consider contributing to my legal defense fund so that I might be able to get the best outcome possible in this case and continue struggling against the wonton disregard for our lives, our futures and our planet.
Thanks, Lee Matthews
UPDATE: Apparently I also have to pay VAT of £600 on the cost of my defense, and my travel expenses down to court from Aberdeen to London are £132.
