Hi,
This is Brittany Oakley, Pam Dertz' daughter. As many of you know, my mother has been in the hospital (currently the ICU) for the past 5 weeks, as of today.
She came in with severe dehydration and Diabetic keto acidosis. While in the hospital, they found a 100% blockage in the vien in her leg and she had a multi-hour surgery to fix the blockage. After surgery, she threw four blood clots. After that was resolved she was sent to a rehab facility with a wound vac still in her leg. Her blood sugar got out of control again and she was back I'm the ICU two days later, where we have been every since.
Things seemed to be progressing in a positive manor, then she ended up with an infection in her wound and also a pseudo-aneurysm in her vein. She lost 700cc of blood and required 2 blood transfusions and emergency surgery to repair and clean out the infection.
She is stable now, but has more procedures scheduled this week. She has another vascular procedure to clean out more of the infection in the wound, then she is scheduled for a heart cath. While going through emergency surgery her heart enzymes became elevated. There was concern that she could have had a minor heart attack during surgery, but now they believe the enzymes were elevated due to the stress and medications (similar to Broken Heart syndrome).
Needless to say, we have all been through a lot this last 5 weeks and we are not out of the woods yet.
She will be released to a acute rehab facility after she is discharged from the hospital.
My father, Mark, has been at the hospital for hours every single day she has been there.
Donations are to help with medical bills, travel expenses, and the purchase of a chair lift for when she comes home.
She has a long road of recovery ahead of her and if you can please pray that all of the complications are behind us, I would truly appreciate it.
If you feel inclined to donate, thank you so much!
Thank you,
Brittany and Mark
