This recording was from the 11:00 am Mass at the Cathedral on Oct. 20, 2019. For the past 4 years, I have had the unique pleasure of standing in front of a group of incredibly seasoned musicians, who have led the sung Liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church in a meaningful and spiritual way for the community of the Cathedral. The Cathedral Staff Singers, in their dedication to making beautiful art, epitomize the “musical tradition of the universal Church”. (Sacrosanctum Concilium)
On behalf of the liturgical musicians who regularly perform at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, I have launched this GoFundMe page entitled “Cover the Call”. Our staff singers, like so many musicians in Philadelphia, suddenly find themselves without work as their musical engagements have been cancelled due to the Coronovirus Pandemic. For these freelance artists, this income is crucial to their financial well-being. In an effort to provide them with some compensation in this precarious and unprecedented time, I am asking all of you who have ever attended a holy day Mass, an Ordination or are currently watching the livestreamed Sunday Mass at the Mother Church, to sincerely consider helping these musicians who are now struggling financially. These fine artists are an integral part of the Mother Church and have served the Archdiocese by sharing their talents and helping us all to touch ethereal beauty.
100% of the donations for this fund will be dispersed amongst the liturgical musicians. I thank you in advance for any assistance you can give at this time.
