COVID -19 and A COASTAL VILLAGE WITH A BIG HEART
Donation protected
Wiscasset is a picture postcard on the banks of the Sheepscot River—but like everywhere else in the world today, schools have closed and businesses are closing or adapting to fewer services. And we are suddenly realizing there are people in our community who are a paycheck away from disaster—families to feed, and rent and heating bills to pay. In this small peninsula, things can fall apart quickly. And it’s still 15-30 degrees here most nights.
Last year, Friends of Wiscasset Village was organized among businesses and neighbors to help the historic downtown area knit together. With remarkable leadership and teamwork, the FWV got our town through a tough time. Now, facing the new CoVid-19 challenge, we are revving up to help those in the wider Wiscasset community who need direct aid as quickly as we can raise the funds. We have suddenly realized that, in our small coastal world of vacationland industries—we are ground zero for lobster rolls—we have families who will need a sustained helping hand to get through the weeks and months ahead.
But it is a tall order.
We believe that no one in this small community should have to decide between the heating bill or the rent and putting food on the table. We need to raise $15,000 to help up to 150 families in the Wiscasset area make it through the next few months while our people shelter in place to outlast this virus. Three cases have just been confirmed nearby in the last four days. Can you help?
Please open your heart and your pocketbook to help us help our neighbors with $5 or $20 or $50 … or $100!! That would be a miracle! … and we need your help QUICKLY!
