COVID 19: Help Fight Child Hunger

Donation protected
Hope everyone is healthy and safe! While COVID-19 has shaken all of us, many of us are fortunate enough for the crisis to be more of a disruption rather than a disaster in our lives. As such, we are reaching out to you to help support those left most vulnerable during these difficult times.

In an effort to provide relief to some of the most impoverished children in the country, we have partnered with University Preparatory Academy, an underprivileged school in Florida. The majority of students at UPA live at or below the poverty line. With COVID-19, their already unfortunate situations have gotten materially worse. Due to school closures, these kids have lost their daily source of food. Due to job losses, their families are struggling to make rent. To make matters worse, many of the children also find themselves in abusive settings or with absentee parents.

Together, we can help these children overcome their circumstances. Of the families we spoke to, their simple ask is to have daily meals and a roof over their heads.

AT A GLANCE

Allen Johnson* is a 3rd grader. He is cared for by a single mother. Mom has lost her job and is facing severe medical problems. Currently, they are fearing eviction. The family is struggling to buy groceries. Allen is a studious little guy though. He hopes to one day have a table and chair to study on.

Emily Sanchez* is a 6th grader. Her father is in jail. Her mother is out of the picture. She has four siblings, the youngest of which is 2 years old. Even in good times, the children live in poverty – they sleep on the floor of their grandparent’s home. The kids rely on free school meals to be fed. The current situation has left the family with a shortage of food as the grandparents are unable to provide meals for all 5 kids.

Mary Walsh* is in Kindergarten. She is raised by a single mother, who is battling cervical and spinal cancer. Her mom has lost her source of income. As a result, she is struggling to provide meals and permanent housing for her daughter.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Initial relief efforts will focus on providing food to ensure that the children do not go hungry. We are also working directly with landlords to keep families in their homes and are providing aid to caretakers in the form of subsidies towards groceries and transportation.

If you have any questions or want to learn more about the families, please don't hesitate to reach out. We will routinely update you as to how your donations are being utilized.

It means a lot to us to have your support and we know it will mean the world to the children on the receiving end of your kindness.
