COVID 19 - Help us feed our Kilimanjaro Crew
Barking Zebra Tours launched a campaign to feed the hardest hit members of our Kilimanjaro mountain crew.
Mt. Kilimanjaro has been the source of life for many people for generations. Covid-19 has devastated our Tanzanian mountain crew, their families, and the entire Kilimanjaro community. The most vulnerable - our guides, cooks, and porters depend on the life of the mountain to provide for their families.
Like our cook Tosha – starting on Kilimanjaro at 19, he's grown into perhaps its finest chef over the past 25 years, while providing food for his table and helping to send his 5 kids to school. Or Alfred, supporting his family for 22 years, first as a porter on the mountain and then moving on to become a much-beloved waiter.
Now, the mountain is empty and quiet. With the necessary cancellation of our 2020 Kilimanjaro climbs, our mountain crew and their family has lost their only source of income. Most of these folks reside in towns and can't farm their way to food sustainability. And most importantly, they need food assistance right away.
Our dream is to raise $28,000 for rice, beans, maze flour, and cooking oil – all of it going directly to our mountain crew and their families. Barking Zebra Tours will distribute food to 150 people for twelve months.
That comes to just over $15 to feed one of our friends for an entire month! Think of it - for what we might spend on a single lunch; we can support a mom, a dad, or their child for 30 days. What an incredible use of our dollars!
Everything - 100% of the money raised will go straight to them… to keep hunger away and hope alive.
Please help our team get back on their feet and in time, back on the mountain.
The entire Barking Zebra team thanks you for your kindness and generosity.
