Pandemic Solidarity for the Long Future

Hello, everyone! We hope everyone is doing as well as can be despite ongoing pandemic and political strife.

Who We Are:

We are a Black-led multiracial group of Trans, Queer and Gender Nonconforming folks of various ages, experiences and abilities coming together to create a virtual COVID Cautious convening. The idea for this convening has come from months of holding space together with community members who have lost access to public space as a result of disappearing COVID mitigations.

Why We Are Gathering:

Within the context of eugenics, ableism, and white supremacy, a COVID Cautious event led by racialized TGNC folks, women, disabled folks, and youth allows us to lead conversations that truly center our dreams of a world of community care. We have a right to have access to clean air and protection from deadly diseases, and we believe we can achieve that goal together.

We live in a world that says it is unrealistic, unnecessary, or “too difficult” to take any COVID precautions. This framing tells those of us most directly affected by COVID that neither our health nor our lives matter. Our conference rejects this fatalistic narrative.

This virtual COVID Cautious Convening will take place Spring 2024 with the intention of re-centering the public narrative regarding COVID within a Racial, Trans/Queer, Disability, & Gender Justice lens.

What We Are Building:

Create a public COVID Cautious principled political framework grounded in Black liberation, anti-capitalism, anti-imperialism, anti-colonialism and anti-eugenics that individuals, institutions, and movement organizations can use to inform, assess, and transform the way they work

Share strategies for advocacy and resource distribution

Launch a PPE Beyond Just Masks Fund to distribute harder to acquire PPE items such as HEPA filters and at home molecular tests

Provide space for folks with shared values to come together

What We Need:

We are asking for community support to bring this accessible virtual gathering to life. Funds will allow us to use a dynamic virtual platform, pay our organizers and facilitators, hire interpreters, and launch the PPE fund. We are also open to donations from organizations via our fiscal sponsor, and partnership opportunities.
