Covid Financial Relief for Cora

On December 19, Cora Duncan, went to the Mercy Health Emergency Room with a cough and fever. She was fully vaccinated against Covid, but due to taking immune suppressants for an autoimmune condition, she did not get as much natural response to the vaccine as an average person would.

Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with Covid and hospitalized. Two days later due to worsening respiratory status, she was placed on a ventilator and moved to the Covid ICU unit in Critical condition.

Cora is 71 years old and has lived most of her life in Muskegon and worked 1-2 jobs for most of it. She is the type of person that would give you anything that you asked for, even if she didn't have much herself. She has overcome many obstacles during her life, after her mother died when she was 5 and was subsequently went to live with her Aunt and Uncle while her siblings went to live with other relatives. She currently lives with her sister, who helped care for her before her admission. Between them they have an extremely limited and fixed income. She is just outside the income limits for being eligible for full Medicaid, so cannot access many of the Medicaid benefits and often struggles to afford her medications and even groceries at times. Due to diabetes, she is losing her eyesight and requires expensive monthly injections in her eyes to help keep her sight. Even with the company savings program, she has a substantial balance at the eye doctor's office.

Medical bills are mounting, utility prices have risen significantly, and the small amount that she gets monthly from Social Security, her only source of income, is not enough to keep pace with the incoming bills.

We would like to try to provide Cora and her sister with some financial relief this holiday season.
