Caught Covid While Working & Fired After It
I used to work out everyday and loved cardio. Iwas active and loved to be outdoors. Today I struggle to walk half a block at a snail pace. I have breathing issues, heart issues, kidney issues, loss oftaste and smell, chest pain, difficulty breathing, faintness, fatigue, back pain, lung pain, headache, I stutter at times and lose my thoughts, and constant fevers to name some of my now chronic issues.
I caught covid-19 while on a work trip. I went to NYC TOY FAIR last week of February - first week of March. By the time I arrived back in LA I had a week of exposure in what I would find out later was a hotspot. Testing was not yet readily available unless you were from Wuhan, an affected cruise ship, or came into contact with them. My doctor said she tested everything and although she was certain I had covid she wasn’t legally allowed to test me. She had tears in her eyes and sent me to quarantine with ibuprofen and some medicine to ease anxiety. For over two weeks it felt as if I was drowning slowly as I quarantined in a hotel room. I gathered several hospital bills because Kaiser was slow to test, treat, or understand COVID. I visited several out of network private hospitals and finally tested positive. The test didn’t help my symptoms. I’m now also part of a covid recocery study time help better understand recover. Thousands of people have been sick for months with no end in sight. Doctors are still trying to figure out the cause. Three months later I currently suffer from post viral syndrome and still very sick. Which means although I am no longer contagious But I still have symptoms. Although I finally tested negative my work has rehired everyone from furlough except me. I got sick on a work trip and essentially I’ve been fired because I got sick while working for them. They also stated I left work voluntary so EDD disqualified me from compensation. I have not gotten paid for anything even though I never quit. I’ve been struggling with my health, sanity, and being able to sustain myself. I’ve went through my savings and still cannot work due to my health. This has impacted me severely. I need help to pay down the bills KP is not covering over my annual limit, out of network care and I can’t afford to continue the pay household bills. Any help big or small is appreciated.
