COVID-19 Black Entrepreneurial Development

Tax deductible

Sonder Impact (f/k/a the LA Black Investors Club) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to empowering Black communities to take ownership of their personal and professional capacity building by spearheading programs and initiatives that have a measurable impact on individual and collective development.  Our Entrepreneurship initiative in particular aims to inform, exchange, and foster the development of entrepreneurial ventures through serving as a conduit to venture creation, capitalization, and capacity building for diverse communities.

This work has never been more essential.

COVID-19 has impacted everyone's lives across the country and the world.  As a direct result of economic and health disparities, black communities have been disproportionately negatively impacted by this pandemic.

Sonder Impact's co-founders, Shanita Nicholas (Startup/VC Attorney) and Amanda-Jane Thomas (Entertainment Attorney), would like to proactively address these concerns in order to assist black businesses in taking advantage of available capital resources.

Through our programming, Sonder Impact will address our community's lack of access and exposure to resources, knowledge, investors, mentors, partners, and clients in order to build a framework for individual and collective wealth creation during and after the coronavirus pandemic.

What programs are the Entrepreneurship initiative planning to execute?

1.
Quarterly Black Business Pitch Competition to (i) serve as a launchpad for black entrepreneurs and (ii) expose and educate others about black businesses.  Since launching in 2017, over 30 entrepreneurs have pitched a variety of businesses, ranging from sporting apps to unique collaborative workspaces.  Our next Competition will be virtual and held on October 28, 2021.

2. The Learning Series workshops to provide financial and legal education and business strategy.  This series is aimed at equipping entrepreneurs with practical skills as they navigate their businesses.

3.  Fireside Chat Series with prominent figures in the business ecosystem to lead discussions on various issues and topics of interest to entrepreneurs, from venture capital and fundraising to investing and marketing.
