COVID-19 recovery fund for Jose & Irene Aguilar

Dear Family, Friends and Community,
It is with a heavy heart and with much faith that we are reaching out to help both of our Father and Mother. On May 30, we received the devastating news that they had tested positive for COVID-19.
Given that they are in their late 60's, we were praying that they would be spared with minor symptoms that would resemble a cold but sadly it escalated and on June 16, our dad was rushed to the hospital and placed on ICU at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
He is in critical condition and was placed on a ventilator. That same day, he suffered a lung collapse and developed pneumonia with an inflammatory infection in his lungs which has
prolonged his recovery. We feel helpless and it has been challenging due to the no visit, no contact regulations. The daily calls from the hospital doctors console our worries.
Our parents live in Little Rock, Arkansas, 1,500 miles away from where we live in California. With all of these frightening events that have unfolded since they tested positive have brought on a lot of fear about the uncertainty of their future. Our dad is the sole provider for our mother, Irene. She suffers from underlying conditions which brought on complications and was hospitalized for a few days. She now finds herself alone at home with no one able to physically assist her in her recovery. The illness has weakened her body, making it hard to complete self care tasks. We FaceTime at all hours and do our best to monitor vitals and progress at a distance while maintaining her in good spirits.
Our dad, Jose Aguilar-Salazar is a devoted husband, father and loving grandfather. He is a lifelong member of the foreign service in the U.S, who has dedicated his life to helping people with resources to alleviate a variety of social hardships and his determination to help others continues by participating in a research study which aims to find if antibodies from a recovered patient could help others recover faster and without complications.
The uncertainty that surrounds this illness has affected many families worldwide. Your kind donations will help pay for any medical expenses not covered by their insurance, expenses related to their recovery at home, and living expenses that cannot be provided until he returns to work. We would like thank you for taking the time to read our parent’s story.

Querida familia, amigos, y comunidad.
