COVID19 LRJC Humanitarian Fund (2nd Round)
Tax deductible
In March, the Latino Racial Justice Circle (LRJC) started a GoFundMe to provide financial support to immigrants in Baltimore who lost their jobs as a result of COVID-19. We started with the initial goal of raising $3,000 and providing assistance to 15 families ($200 each). However, the response from the community blew us away. In the end, between the GoFundMe and offline donations, we were able to provide assistance to 346 immigrant families in Baltimore.
Unfortunately, the crisis has not gone away, and we are again asking for your support. Immigrant workers and families have been especially hard hit by the crisis, both in terms of getting sick from the virus and in losing their jobs. Immigrant families, even mixed-status families in which some members are citizens, were completely left out of the CARES Act (meaning that these families did not get stimulus payments). Immigrants are also not eligible for unemployment benefits. When they lose their job, they lose all their income and are left with nothing to support their families.
We are now in the third wave of COVID-19 and the end is not coming soon. Many immigrant families now depend on community support to meet their basic needs, such as food, diapers, and household supplies. If you have been fortunate and the COVID-19 crisis not has dramatically impacted your finances, please consider making a donation to this campaign to help less fortunate families survive this difficult time. We are stating with the goal of raising $10,000 families and helping 50 more families, but hope that we exceed this!
Funds raised will be channeled to the LRJC by our fiscal sponsor Call to Action Maryland, a 503c3 non-profit organization that educates, inspires, and activates Catholics to act for justice, enabling our Maryland communities to carry out Catholic social justice teaching in our personal and community lives.
