COVID-19 Relief for the Center for New Music
Donation protected
tl;dr - The Center's leadership is foregoing pay for the next 4 months to continue paying our employees. We're asking for help paying rent. Donations will be matched by an anonymous donor.
In its Tenderloin home, the Center for New Music (C4NM) has held 1,100 concerts and dispersed over $400k to artists. As part of its mission, artists who perform at the C4NM get 100% of the box office of every concert. We’ve always been funded, primarily, through artist and listener memberships and the generosity of our donors at live events. Unfortunately, due to Coronavirus, we’ve been unable to hold the events that both highlight these artists and raise money for the center.
With grants and federal aid drying up, our leadership made the difficult decision to not take a salary for the next four months. This ensures that our employees - who are young, vibrant artists themselves - are able to continue receiving a paycheck and that we’re able to continue paying rent. While we continue to invest in online experiences to continue bringing art to people (for free), I am genuinely humbled by this decision and have never been prouder to support this organization.
We’re asking close friends and family to help us reach a fundraising goal of $10,000 which will be matched by an anonymous donor. That’s a total of $20,000. While a small part of this will go to our staff (<5%), the vast majority of it will allow C4NM to bridge the rent gap for the next 4 months. As members of the board, we want to lead by example and collectively have donated $3,000 ourselves - which is $6,000 after matching. Anything you can spare for this staple of music in the heart of San Francisco will be greatly appreciated. And did we mention matched? :)
