COVID-19: #RentRelief for Immigrants

Donation protected
Every day, we see the impact that COVID-19 is having on communities across the country and around the world. In times like this, it’s important for us to come together and support those who are most marginalized. This of course, includes immigrants.

As the Boston Globe Editorial Board so eloquently stated, immigrants have been front-line warriors fighting the coronavirus outbreak in the United States, providing medical care, picking field crops, disinfecting buildings, and delivering food and groceries to your front door.

However, millions of immigrants in this country were excluded from our latest stimulus package and are also struggling to pay rent, keep their lights on, and afford groceries.

That is why we need to support immigrants now, more than ever. We are joining Fred Joseph’s #RENTRELIEF effort and here’s how it works:

1. If you come from a mixed-status family or are a first generation immigrant and can’t make rent, have an unexpected bill, or are in a jam because your hours were cut or you lost your job, fill out this form  with your CashApp, Venmo, or PayPal.

2. I’ll post all transactions on my Twitter (@LeonXDavis)  + Instagram (@LeonXDavis)  stories each day so people know exactly where every dollar is going.

3. If you’d like to help immigrants who are struggling right now, please donate to this GoFundMe. Every dollar will be used to support immigrants and their families who are short on rent, groceries, or bills.

NOTE: All transactions and stories will be posted anonymously for the safety and privacy of immigrant communities. In addition, all information provided will be kept confidential.

During this time of social distancing and isolation, we can still come together to support one another.

Thanks to GoFundMe, we have received a donation of $5,000 to kick this campaign. That’s enough money for 25 people who are $200 short. However, if we encourage others to donate to the fund then we can help even more families in need.

Can we get this GoFundMe to $10,000 to help 50 people?

Can we get it to $20,000 to help 100 people?

Times are tough. People need help. Let’s take action.

**To help as many people as possible the max grant is $200. We will not keep any of the funds that are donated to the GoFundMe campaign . We will post all transactions publicly on Twitter (@LeonXDavis) and Instagram Stories (@LeonXDavis) and save them as a permanent Highlight.**
