SEPh COVIDBox Medical Response
Donation protected
The COVIDBox is a protective barrier for doctors and nurses. Our goal is to help those that help us.
We are the Society for Engineering and Physics (SEPh). We are a student organization dedicated to promoting science and engineering in our community. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have shifted our focus towards helping the medical care field in these trying times.
We are currently partnering with the Society of Physics Students (SPS) on a project called the COVIDBox. Our goal is to help those that help us.
The COVIDBox is an acrylic box that can be placed over a patient that has developed COVID-19 to allow medical care workers to safely manipulate patients (intubate, check vitals, take samples, etc...) through two arm openings. This can help prevent medical care workers from contracting the virus. The box will be the first line of defense to keep the virus contained if the patient coughs, sneezes or otherwise releases the virus, .
*Our challenge lies in the cost of the acrylic and we have exhausted our funds to purchase the materials required for further production. *
We are currently manufacturing a prototype COVIDBox that should be completed this weekend. We will be donating these apparatuses to hospitals in Las Cruces, Albuquerque, and the surrounding area.
In the mean time, SEPh is 3-D printing face shields and manufacturing face masks to donate to hospitals. We are also looking into building other types of medical equipment including ventilators. This Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) protects our medical care workers.
We are looking to get our story out to the public in hopes that the community can pull together to generously donate either materials or money to purchase said materials. Any and all donations will be documented publicly and be invested directly into the manufacturing of these possibly life-saving apparatuses.
Our goal is $5000 but donations beyond that goal directly contribute to more COVIDBoxes and medical PPE. After we have maximized our capacity, any excess donations will be given back to the Las Cruces community. If any hospitals or doctors would like to reach out, please email us at [email redacted], [email redacted], or [email redacted]. Thank you.
