Cowboy Stabbed During Manhunt

While assisting the Sheriff’s Dept. in investigating an attempted carjacking of a family near his ranch, Randy Hatlee was ambushed and brutally stabbed multiple times. Randy has always been first and foremost to assist anyone in need and this time it nearly cost him his life.
The details as compiled from various sources: When a friend escaped an attempted carjacking with his family, he flagged down Randy for help. Coordinating with a Deputy Sheriff, Randy was patrolling the road and had stopped his vehicle to investigate. The suspect was hiding nearby and gained access to Randy’s vehicle while Randy was out. When confronted, the suspect found a knife in the vehicle and rushed Randy. While within his right to defend his life, Randy did not engage his attacker with deadly force at this point as he did not know he was armed.
The suspect, a 17 year old male stabbed Randy several times, including the neck & chest, narrowly missing his heart. At this point, Randy discharged his firearm and the suspect fled, only to be apprehended by the Deputies that just arrived on the scene. The Deputies attempted to control the bleeding, but the suspect died shortly thereafter. Randy was medevac’d to a local hospital and his condition was critical to say the least. When I spoke to my longtime friend, with a raspy voice barely above a whisper, Randy stated that: “It will take more than that to kill me!” His tenacity is still intact and his condition is improving. While he is expected to recover, he will require much rest & therapy.
The goal of this fund raising is to provide assistance as he will not be able to return to work on his ranch until sufficiently healed. The Doctor’s orders are for rest & recuperation, however the horses and other animals at the ranch require daily care and critical ranch chores such as bailing hay cannot wait. Your contributions are greatly appreciated and we will keep you posted on his progress.
