It was February 1. Christina and the kids (Jay, Kyle, Amanda and Elizabeth) were prepping for the Super Bowl party they planned the next day. While making a quick dinner, the oven caught on fire. The kitchen was quickly destroyed. Everyone got out safely. Kaitlyn was away at school, ISU. The family was allowed to take a week's worth of belongings to an extended stay hotel that night. With their lives in shambles, Christina always dependable, still hosted her kids' friends for the Super Bowl party in their hotel room the next day! Two weeks later, the family is staying in a rental home in Burr Ridge. It will take about six months for the home to be safe for their return. The kitchen has to be totally repaired. There is smoke damage all throughout the house. Soot is in every corner. Every soft fabric and porous surface has to be either thoroughly cleaned or completely replaced. Fortunately, insurance has stepped in and is covering much of the expenses. But, as the family moves forward there are deductibles, mounting daily expenses and unexpected costs.
