Coz Fontenot Medical Expenses

My uncle, Coz Fontenot, is a legend in traditional Cajun music circles. You can't help but be mesmerized by his voice. Being a large man at 6'6 and 300 pounds in the prime of his life, it always takes you by surprise when he begins to sing in high-pitched Cajun French in that voice described by John Harris a music and culture writer for The Guardian, as having "that quintessentially American quality known as 'The High Lonesome'." https://www.theguardian.com/music/2004/mar/21/popandrock4
Accompanied by his harmonica, accordion, and fiddle, his voice takes you to another place and time, telling a soulful story of the trials and tribulations of the Cajun culture. He has played with many of the Cajun greats, including Steve Riley, Savoy Family Band, Balfa Brothers, Pine Leaf Boys, and many more. I love this video of him playing at the Swamp and Roll doing what he loves best: https://youtu.be/AhQy33Pk4OM
My Dad, Will Fontenot, tells me that just recently, Coz was playing at the Saturday morning Cajun Jam at Savoy Music Center in Eunice, Louisiana. The Grammy-winning Michael Doucet was among the numerous Cajun musicians that showed up that day. After listening to Coz sing a few songs, Micheal sat down next to Coz and asked who he was. Micheal remarked that he knew the name, Coz, but had never met him. After hearing Coz play, Micheal claimed Coz had one of the greatest Cajun voices he had ever heard.
As some of you may know, Coz has dealt with health challenges for some time. My Dad and I want to share with you that Coz is terminally ill and is not expected to be with us more than a week. We have started this fundraiser to defray the costs of his medical and funeral expenses.
We may be biased, but we agree with Michael Doucet that Coz has one of the greatest Cajun voices and losing him will leave a void in the Cajun music world that cannot be filled. In fact, Coz just told Dad today that his death will be the demise of his style of Cajun music.
Today we ask that you pray for Coz and take a few minutes to listen to his music.
The family appreciates any donations that you are able to make via this GoFundMe and we ask that you share this fundraiser with others. We also ask that you share Coz's music with others and help to carry the tradition of Cajun music that he so loves.
