Help Support Taylor's Mission

ALS (Amytrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is a progressive neurological disease for which there is no cure and very little treatment. It robs those affected of the ability to walk, move, swallow, talk, and breath while mostly leaving the mental faculties in place.

 

CCC’s Taylor Brown was diagnosed with ALS in January 2021. Despite his new limitations, Taylor has remained positive, upbeat, and faithful. He has not let this illness define who he is and has even been able to see beyond his own diagnosis to recognize the larger needs of others facing the same terminal disease in our community.

 

Taylor is currently a patient at the multidisciplinary clinic (a part of Prisma Health) in Greenville, which cares for about 100 individuals with varying needs. The clinic’s funds are limited and for an average patient, the out-of-pocket cost after insurance is roughly $110,000 per year.

 

In our efforts to support the Brown family, Taylor introduced CCC to the director of the clinic. She, along with several community members around the Upstate, are trying to start a non-profit to assist patients with the cost of care in dealing with this catastrophic disease.

 

The organization will be called Touched by ALS. Their mission is to fill the gap by providing help with the financial burden, as well as the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those living with ALS. In order to officially form the organization and obtain their 501c3, the group needs financial backing.

 

CCC has pledged to assist these community members in raising the money needed to launch Touched by ALS. Our goal is to raise $8,000 by the end of October so they can begin their own fundraising campaign in Spring 2022.
