After a perfect weekend together in Chapel Hill, we returned home on Sunday, March 5, tired and excited to tell Jack and Marc about the game! Our first and only Carolina basketball game in the Dean Dome; Michael Jordan shows up at half time, and the icing on the cake- they beat Duke! This was Craig’s dream come true; his only item on his bucket list that he said he wanted, one day before he died. As we began to unload and go in the house, Craig suddenly became ill and Marc and I rushed him to the ER. What I thought would be a routine visit for lingering symptoms from the flu, turned into the worst night of our lives that were changed forever.
My best friend, protector, love of my life; my sons hero and rock suffered a massive stroke on Sunday, March 5. Craig battled for a week as the team of surgeons and nurses at Riverside Neurology worked relentlessly to save him. Life support was needed to sustain him after a long week and the fight of his life. His body could take no more and Craig was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, March 13.
He chose to be an organ donor. It’s just like him to want to bless others with the gift of life. We believed for a miracle for God to revive him before his organs were recovered. Family, friends, co-workers, and acquaintances from across the world, and those who never prayed before, interceded on his behalf.
We never gave up; we waited on God, we believed to the end, and while we may not have seen the miracle we had in mind, HE had a bigger plan for Craig as he welcomed him into HIS loving and healing arms.
Craig especially loved his sons. He lived to be part of every aspect of their lives and raise Godly young men. His highest priorities in life were God, his family, his work and helping others discover their potential. Craig was employed at Ferguson Enterprises for 26 years, where he served as Director of Market Intelligence and eBusiness Development. Throughout his career with Ferguson, his greatest goal and accomplishment was to shape and mold leaders, in business and life. He had a way of making work feel like family and was respected across Ferguson. He was a gentle giant with the heart of a warrior who chose to be an organ donor. He had a servant’s heart, striving to lift people up and bless anyone in need.
The only things sustaining his wife and sons is their love for Craig and his for them, prayers, and their faith in God. Jack and Marc’s dad is their hero and best friend. Their world is shattered and will never be the same.
Craig was their sole provider and was very good about saving, planning, and being a good steward with their blessings. He was blessed with a successful career at Ferguson Enterprises for 26 years and was able to provide his family with all their needs. While they are left with "some" savings and benefits, it’s not nearly enough for long term expenses and education for the boys.
Organ donor. Remember to “check the box’ save a lfe.
