Craig Kaylor - Father, Teacher, Coach, Friend
Rocklin High School Family,
As many of you know, Craig Kaylor has taken attendance for the last time. Craig passed away suddenly and unexpectedly last week at his home. A fall out of the shower, or a medical emergency claimed the life of our friend and colleague.
Craig was a big part of the spirit of our campus. His viewpoints, humor, and silliness will be greatly missed by the students and staff of Rocklin High School.
Craig had a deep appreciation for America, and the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women. Craig was proud of his father, John Kaylor, a member of the United States Air Force. Along with the American flags and memorabilia decorating his home, Craig had stories to pass along of his fathers time in the service...I enjoyed how he would spot a plane, identify it, and give details about it...it just looked like 'another plane' to me.
Everyone knew Craig was an avid Oregon Duck supporter. Craig was an Offensive Lineman for the Ducks in the early 80s, lining up alongside future Hall Of Famer Gary Zimmerman. Craig's Duck memorabilia could be found in his car, classroom, home, wardrobe.. the guy bled green and yellow. A member of Theta Chi Fraternity - Alpha Sigma Chapter..well, we will keep those stories amongst brothers, but they are good!
Craig was a Broadcasting and Photo teacher for over 20 years. His passion: kids. Craig was a gentle giant, and the kids loved being in his classes. Craig coached Football and Girls Golf for the Thunder.
Craig was at a happy spot in life. His two children, Hudson and Katie are completing school, entering professions, and becoming responsible adults. He was counting down the last 2 - 3 years until retirement from teaching. Craig was a good son, and he looked after his mom - who is in her 90s and lives up the street from Craig in their Foothill Farms neighborhood, and she is doing well. He was looking forward to getting the Volkswagen Vanagon running, and improving his golf game.
A funeral for Craig will be at East Lawn Cemetery...Tuesday, August 10 at 2:00PM (this is a new date..)
Family, Friends, and Faculty of RUSD are invited to Craig's funeral. The services will take place outside.
As for the many students whose lives have been touch by Mr. Kaylor, we are working on a Celebration of Life, perhaps a golf tournament would be fitting. Stay tuned to the Instagram pages for Craig or Frank Shields for an update.
