ABOUT CRANIOCERVICAL INSTABILITY

Craniocervical Instability is a chronic condition where there is too much movement in the upper cervical spine. This is mostly caused by ligament weakness, which often occurs in patients with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and other hereditary connective disorders. They have increased hypermobility in their joints, including the cervical spine. This means ligaments are not able to support the cervical spine and the skull. This condition causes a lot of debilitating neurological symptoms, such as dizziness, tinnitus, severe headaches and paralysis, which cause patients to be disabled, not able to work and bedbound.

Unfortunately there is a lack of knowledge in this field as well as a lack of options for proper diagnostics, which means Craniocervical Instability is underdiagnosed. Also, patients need proper treatment without getting further damage of their ligaments. Patients usually start with conservative treatment. If conservative treatments fail, they can try a combination of conservative treatment and regenerative medicine in order to try heal damaged ligaments. The last resort is occipitocervical fusion.

This is where we get in. Craniocervical Instability Fund helps patients by raising funds in order to get them the right diagnosis and treatment.
