Donation protected
Leya Russell is a single mother and freelance photographer from Calgary, Alberta.
On May 9th Leya was involved in a tragic plane crash.
Calgary photographer Leya Russell, has been overseas away on assignment brandishing her camera in order to help bring awareness through her work with CDD (Centre for Disability and Development) and “Photographers Without Borders” of the atrocities in Bangladesh. Before returning home Cyclone Fans struck and a terrible mishap with her plane landing occurred.
She broke her back in two places and suffered a major concussion. Leya was rescued from the site of the crash and rush medical evacuated to Bangkok to receive treatment. Alone, in pain and in a foreign country she has shown her grit and strength. It is unimaginable how incredibly tough it must be, but we hope to get her back home and on her feet again soon.
Leya Russell is a single mother and freelance wedding photographer. Her insurance will run out as soon as she returns home and there is nothing to support her on her journey.
With a body brace and a wheelchair, she will be unable to work for some time. Being self employed and means there is no EI of WCIB to compensate her during her recovery.
Leya makes the majority of her income from Summer work and wedding photography, yet will be unable to do so this year. She needs to support her family as well as return deposits to all clients that she can no longer work for due to her injuries. That means a large sum of money out all of a sudden and even worse, nothing coming in doing her road to recovery. Leya can really use all the help we can give her.
Leya is strong, and has a sparkle in her eye. She is determined to not only survive but also to continue winning and helping others.
These tragic circumstances are an opportunity for us to return the love Leya has shared with the world. Together we had the power to help her while she is on her long process of health and recovery.
