CRASHERS #FLL #STEM AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONS

This team, the “Crashers”, is excited to represent Australia!

FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, #STEM) Lego League (or FLL for short), is a robotics competition that prepares young people for the future through an inclusive, team-based robotics program. The competition encompasses so much more than Lego or #morethanrobots and seeing these kids work through challenging innovative energy ideas and robotics (both building and programming) as such a cohesive group of students is remarkable.

My name is Frik and as a proud grandfather myself I am in awe of the work and commitment of this team.

The new season for FLL kicked off in August 2022 and the “Crashers” competed in Regionals and then Nationals, in December, which was held at Curtin University. Overall they competed against about 700 teams around Australia and were selected as the sole representatives for Australia, at the FIRST® Championships to be held in Houston, USA.

During this time, the team has developed their skills in research, robotics, strategic planning, teamwork and they even engaged with different areas in the community. Skills which as a businessman myself, I know are so important for children to learn in order to thrive in their own futures.

Why does the team need help?

This is only the second year the afterschool club has participated in this competition and achieving such a high standard should be celebrated. The team, their teachers, parents and the school are helping in a number of different ways to raise funds to compete in the FIRST® Championship four-day robotics championship from April 19 -22, 2023. However, raising the number of funds needed especially to travel between Houston, USA and Perth, Australia is more than expected. The funds will primarily go towards travel costs with airline ticket quotes of $4056.46 per ticket, but also assist with registration fees, accommodation, transportation in Houston and the team's need to compete.
