Crazy Old Lady Raising Money For Kids
This is a fundraiser for First Tee of Central Washington
(Originally known as the Yakima Youth Golf Organization).
I am working directly with the Wenatchee Directors
Backstory:
Did you ever have a wild idea as a kid? Some people are calling me crazy but I’ve been wanting to do this since I was a young girl. I saw my grandma and her sister take off on an epic cross-country road trip and thought it was the coolest thing ever. I didn’t even know what a bucket list was then but, little did I know, I had just created one!
Fast forward 55 years. Now I'm a 69-year-old widow and still haven’t taken that road trip. I’m not getting any younger, so I decided it's time.
On August 27th, I’ll leave my home in central Washington state and drive solo across the country to Vermont. That's why people are calling me crazy. I'm doing this solo! When I tell people about the trip the first words out of their mouths are "You're going alone?!"
I love the game of golf, so I’ll be meeting up with a few friends and a whole bunch of people I haven’t even met yet to play as many courses as I can along the way.
After New England, I’ll swing South to continue golfing and then make a giant loop back to Washington. If all goes as planned, I’ll be back where I started around November 1.
That sounds like all fun, but there’s also a serious reason I’m making this trip.
As an avid golfer, I’m passionate about a program called First Tee. I grew up kind of poor, so I was never able to play golf until I was an adult and could afford it. I sure wish I had been introduced to golf earlier in life. There are so many great life lessons to be learned from it. First Tee gives kids the opportunity to learn the game of golf at a young age, regardless of whether they have money or not.
So, I will be promoting First Tee throughout my journey. First Tee is a 501c non-profit youth development organization that teaches kids important life skills. It integrates the game of golf with 9 core life skills: Responsibility, Confidence, Respect, Sportsmanship, Integrity, Honesty, Judgment, Courtesy, and Perseverance.
I’m paying all my personal expenses for the trip, of course, but I’m trying to raise $9,375 for First Tee. That amount would sponsor 125 kids ages 5-18 to participate in the program.
Here’s where you come in. You can be my virtual golf partner on this epic solo golfing road trip, and you can help a young person get started golfing, no matter what their background or ability to pay.
Donate any amount to this fundraiser for First Tee, and I’ll give you a shout-out on all of my Social media platforms and on my blogs (unless you prefer to stay anonymous). I have several thousand people who will be following me online. I sincerely hope you will be one of them.
$25 (3 of these donations sponsors 1 child)
$75 sponsors 1 child in the program
$150 sponsors 2 children in the program
You can give any amount, of course. No donation is too small to make a difference in the life of a child. ALL donations are tax-deductible. Most important, though, you’ll be making a big difference in a young person’s life.
According to the national First Tee website:
73% reported high confidence in their ability to do well academically.
82% felt confident in their social skills with peers.
52% credited the program for their ability to appreciate diversity.
100% bridged what they learned in First Tee to school.
85% of Alumni credit the program with helping them become a better student.
91% of Alumni participated in community service. (the national average is 22% among 16-24-year-olds.
These days, we all want to help, but sometimes it’s hard to know what charity to support or what cause to get involved with. I can assure you, your donation will impact a young person’s life, and they’ll be grateful. There's a really good chance it will help them become a better student, a better citizen, and a future leader, too.
This trip is not about sightseeing. It is about connecting with people and having an impact on youth in the best way I know. What could be more important right now than investing in the development of our youth?
I look forward to having you as my virtual partner on this solo cross-country road trip. You can follow me at SeniorWomenGolfers.com or, as a donor you can friend request me on my Facebook. Carol Klock Williams
This is a donation to the First Tee of North Central Washington. Yakima was the original Chapter but it now serves ALL of North Central Washington.
Thanks so much for your generous donation,
