We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our much loved Chris, the most wonderful husband, incredible dad & loving son.
Chris passed away peacefully on Friday 11th August surrounded by myself and his parents.
Chris has been battling against Stage 4 Bowel Cancer since February 2020. It was a battle he always knew he could never win but was determined to live as much as possible for the sake of his children.
The 3 years, 6 months and 10days he managed to live with stage 4 cancer were incredibly tough for him. He endured so much treatment, underwent extensive surgeries and was tested mentally to his limits. However, he did this with courage, humour and determination.
Chris was diagnosed at the start of the national pandemic and this had such an impact on his battle. Due to the pandemic he had to undertake all his treatments alone. He was isolated for the duration as he was immunosuppressed.
During the past few years he spent as much of time in the garden as he possibly could. He commenced his garden project and wanted nothing more to create a dream space for his family. He was also able to spend valuable time with friends in this space, whilst remaining socially distanced.
Everyone who had the pleasure to know Chris will know he was a free spirit. He had such a love of life and he lived a life, and then some, in his 52 years. His passing leaves the biggest void, our family will never be able to fill. Our hearts have shattered into a million pieces.
Chris would tell you all to know the symptoms of Bowel Cancer, advocate for yourself hard, get everything checked out asap with a professional.
We are still working hard to make Chris’s dream come to life!
In February 2020, Chris was diagnosed with bowel cancer at just 49 years old. He had been going to his GP for 10 years with symptoms but sadly this wasn’t picked up.
After diagnosis Chris went on to have a number of tests and scans. He then ended up with pneumonia and Pyema which resulted in a two and a half week stay in hospital. During that stay Chris found out that his cancer was stage 4, it had spread to his lung and liver and was inoperable. At that point he was given 6 months to live.
Then in March 2020 the whole country went into lockdown. At a time when Chris, Debs and their two children Christopher and Pheobe needed family and friends the most, everyone was locked down. No one to give them a hug when they needed it the most, no one to help with the kids, help with hospital trips and help to make things that little bit lighter in an extremely tough situation.
In April 2020, Chris started chemotherapy. He had 7 rounds of chemotherapy then went on to have 35 sessions of radiotherapy. Then another 7 rounds of chemotherapy and 4 rounds of internal radiotherapy taking a huge toll on Chris but as always, he stayed strong for his family.
In April 2021 he had a liver resection with a quarter of his liver removed. Then back to another eight rounds of Chemotherapy.
In August 2022 his bowel perforated so he had to have an APR operation with reconstructive flap resulting in having a stoma fitted.
After the operation he had 12 weeks where he couldn’t sit or lay on his back, he had to lay on each side. Chris then bravely had another 5 rounds of Chemotherapy to then discover it was progressing in his liver and has now also gone into his pelvis.
Chris is fighting this with everything he has and has been so strong, brave and courageous throughout these last three years alongside his wife and two children.
Chris wants nothing more than to see a perfect garden space created for his family allowing them to enjoy the area they have and to be able to make the most of it.
Sadly on Thursday 3rd August, Chris and Debs bravery was tested again this week with Chris being diagnosed with sepsis leaving him too poorly to continue with chemotherapy. Chris has now been transferred to a hospice to receive the best possible care and to make him as comfortable as possible.
For those who are lucky enough to have had this beautiful family touch your lives, you will know that they are the most selfless, kind, caring, go getting family who cherish every moment they spend together.
This makes us even more determined to reach the goal.
Every penny helps towards us reaching our goal to carry out Chris’s wishes and create a beautiful garden for a beautiful family. Please share this page as much as you can, far and wide to raise as much as we can for Chris to be able to see his garden finished.
