Help Us Provide Clean Water to Kids in Sri Lanka

Our Story:

Our connection to Sri Lanka is something we at Alliant RIGSERV have in common with IFS. IFS through the IFS Foundation works in partnership with Sri Lankan communities to alleviate poverty in the country.

The IFS Foundation believes that education is one of the key drivers to alleviating poverty as it aims to promote positive change and long-term sustainability. This belief strongly aligns with our own CSR initiatives: to support social causes that create meaningful impact in communities.

To achieve this, the IFS Foundation is taking an integrated approach, investing in projects that improve sanitation, access to fresh water, healthcare, and employment opportunities, alongside building education infrastructure to ensure children receive education.

Many rural areas are still lacking basic services such as access to clean water. Welusumanapura, a community in Puttalam District about three hours north of Colombo is one of them.

The IFS Foundation is looking to improve access to clean water in Welusumanapura through the installation of tube wells and water purification systems. This means that kids in this community will no longer have to travel long distances just to fetch water, and would have more time to focus on school.

Why Welusumanapura?

Welusumanapura is a peaceful, resilient, and friendly community, consisting of roughly 700 homes with approximately 2,500 inhabitants. It has below-average infrastructure but above-average school participation. This highlights the fact that in this community, there is a basic desire for self-improvement; something we can lean into and support. 

How to help?

We are raising $15,000 USD to help build one (1) water purification plant and three (3) tube wells (total commit) in Welusumanapura, Puttalam District, Sri Lanka. Each water treatment plant produces enough water to support around 100 people.
