Creating an Education Community Center in Benin
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Zull-Kifuly Moumouni.
I am from the Republic of Benin, a West-Africa country where 62% of the population is Illiterate and 82% of secondary school teachers are untrained as a result of poverty, lack of educational programs and a critical shortage of learning resources for both teachers and students.
English language is a key to increasing opportunities, so I studied and taught EFL in the secondary schools of my community, where I developed a passion to educate our youth and help them reach their goals. As a former counterpart in Peace Corps Benin and the co-founder of the AMAZ Association, I also worked on educational projects related to gender-based violence, positive discipline, sanitation and hygiene, self-confidence, STI prevention, goal setting, financial management and community development. I’ve had the opportunity to continue my education and research as a Fulbright /Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow at Pennsylvania State University where I’ve been able to witness how happy, lucky and successful students in the U.S. are because of the learning resources available in their communities.
I therefore decided to create EDEL (English as a Development Ladder), an education community center in Zogbodomey, Benin. The aim of EDEL is to significantly mitigate the main socio-educational issues in the community, to break the stereotypes of the population, to encourage children (especially girls) to stay in school, to counsel and train them for personal development and success, and to promote English literacy. More details about issues in Benin and the activities I want to do with EDEL are on the attached photos. You can follow EDEL’s activities and progress on our Facebook page.
The cost of a one-year pilot project led by three staff members is projected at $40,194 (as detailed below). I am seeking donations to make this dream become a reality in support of the students of Benin. Please help me to give them a brighter future so they can grow up to achieve their goals and make a difference in the world.
