Creighton Adams is a 33 year wife and mother of 3. She's my husband's cousin, but I've known her as long as I can remember. She fixed my hair for our wedding and she gave my first baby his first haircut. She wouldn't let us pay for either. She's given me clothes she doesn't wear anymore, and she saves hand me downs for our kids. I always request her famous peanut butter balls at Thanksgiving, and she delivers. She's the sweetest soul.
In 2012, Creighton suffered a stroke that required her to have several surgeries and extensive rehab. A piece of her skull was removed to reduce swelling in her brain, then later replaced. She had to spend weeks away from her children, and she fought so hard to get better and improve every day. Once she was home she continued to work doing physical therapy for months, and she strives to make the best of her reduced mobility. Though she can no longer work, she still maintains the house and takes care of the dogs and 3 kids, and supports Thomas as he manages his heating and air conditioning business. That's no easy feat!
As of December 31, 2015, Creighton and Thomas' insurance dropped them, stating they no longer provided the services she needed in her area. She is eligible to recieve Medicare starting February 1.
On January 11, 2016 Creighton unexpectantly suffered another stroke. She went to St. Mary's hospital, and later was transferred to Grady. Doctors confirmed she had a carotid dissection, and performed an angiogram to break up a clot and hopefully prevent future strokes. Her speech was most affected following this stroke, and it is difficult for her to tell her mouth to say the things she's thinking.
After her procedure at Grady she was sent home. She was not eligible for any additional services since she did not have insurance coverage. Once the new insurance starts in February she hopes to get into rehab again to improve her speech and mobility.
Her second stroke occurred 11 days after her insurance policy was terminated, and 20 days before her new one starts. No coverage means no payments. Thomas and Creighton will have to pay out of pocket 100% for the medical bills she incurred.
After Creighton's first stroke the community rallied around her. People provided meals, checked on her and Thomas and the kids, and donated money to help with their portion of the extensive medical bills.
Right now the financial burden is the most stressful to Thomas and Creighton. We're hopeful the community will be willing to support this sweet family again. Last time it was not a few people donating hundreds of dollars, it was hundreds of people donating $10, $20 or $50 that added up to a lot of support.
Any donations will be used to pay for medical expenses. Please consider donating to Creighton's medical fund and sharing this page so that others can read about her story and donate as well.
Thank you in advance.
