CRICKET PERU-SUPPORT PERUVIAN KIDS PLAYING CRICKET
Cricket Peru is the administrative body for the sport in Peru and is accredited by the International Cricket Council (www.icc-cricket.com). It is a non-profit organization which strives to use cricket as a means for social development in Peru.
The ICC provides Cricket Peru with a small amount of funding per year which goes towards the costs of paying the National Development officer and the other Peruvian teachers who work full-time to develop the sport, teaching Peruvians all over Lima.
Cricket Peru has always relied on the good will of various volunteers to keep the development going in Peru, especially in its outreach programs in less affluent districts of Lima. Cricket is not a well-known sport in Latin America and as a result it has not yet been able to receive the necessary interest to gain widespread support and funding.
Cricket Peru is determined to keep moving forward in spite of its obstacles; however, it has been placed with a rather significant challenge for the year of 2019. This October, Peru will host the South American Cricket Championships for the first time in 5 years. The championships are an annual competition contested by Men’s, Women’s and Junior teams from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru.
As with all the South American Championships, they are self funded and there are always tour costs for both the home teams and away teams to go towards the uniforms, transport, grounds, equipment and running the tournament.
Many of the young kids and women participating are simply not in a position to afford the championship costs. We are making this page to come together to try and raise enough money to help cover the outreach development kids and the women's costs.
Any funds raised will go towards helping the youth and women from Cricket Peru's outreach development programs play in the Junior and Senior South American Championships 2019, and will also go towards the sustainability of the Cricket Peru pathway.
Below is some more in depth information about some of our programs and a few profiles on some of our talented cricketers so you can see the faces of some of those you would be helping as they represent Peru this year in the South American Championship from the 27-30 of September and the 3-6 of October. Thank you for your support.
DEVELOPMENT- KIDS/JUNIOR/PATHWAY
Cricket Peru’s development programs run across all socio-economic levels. One of our proudest expansions was into the development of grassroots outreach development in less affluent neighborhoods in Lima. The expansion began with the first outreach development program in the district of Magdalena in 2014 where Cricket Peru signed an agreement with the Municipality of Magdalena to give free classes of cricket to the community throughout the whole year.
With the championships in Lima this year, the 2019 tournament represents a major opportunity for more promising young kids and women to partake in an international series, with the costs of travel having proved an obstacle to many young players in the past.
JAIR ROJAS- 15
Jair began playing in our outreach development program in 2015 in Magdalena and his cricketing abilities have soared in the past years through his sheer dedication. He is a left hand bowler and a right hand batsman and has dreams of eventually going to a cricket playing country to play a summer of cricket!
GABRIEL LOZANO- 12
Gabriel is a home grown talent that has played in the mens league for 2 years now. His bowling has great movement and he always manages to find the gaps when he bats, but don't let his small frame fool you, he will take advantage of any loose ball bowled at him and hit it for 6!
BRAULIO ELIAS GONZALEZ- 15
MILKA ESTEBAN LINARES- 21
She has a lot of potential to grow and we are excited to see where she goes!
ADRIANA AND ALEXANDRA VASQUEZ
The twins have been playing cricket for over a year now and their improvement has been phenomenal. They are the ultimate team and come to trainings all over Lima for the love of the game.
They will now be representing Peru in the South American Championships for the Vicunas national team. See if you can pick them a part when they are batting!
