Cris Alvaro Memorial Fund
Donation protected
We ask Cris's community to join us in supporting trans mental health and well-being in memory of Cris. Funds will be donated to organizations (chosen by Cris's family) that honor Cris's trans identity, racial justice values, and personal experience with mental illness.
When sharing any reflections about Cris, please use their pronouns (they/them); they identified as trans and non-binary. It is important that we respect Cris and all trans people through our language choices. Cris was a strong advocate for trans rights and racial justice, and we hope you will continue this work in their honor.
We also urge you to continue supporting and loving each other after this tragedy. Be vulnerable and love without reservations, as Cris did. Ask for help if you need it. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
Cris was deeply loved and had a very supportive family, drag family, and countless friends. They changed so many lives, and we are beyond devastated by this tremendous loss. But we are also deeply, deeply grateful to have known Cris. The world is a better place because of them. Everyone who knew Cris knew they were exuberant, inventive, continuously questioning and creating, boundary-breaking, fiercely loving, generous, honest, and tender.
To say that Cris will be missed is an understatement. They will be missed everyday, and they will also be with us, everyday. In drag performance, in spirit, in song, in science, in the mirror when we're deciding what to wear, in laughs, in tears, and in the memories we hold closest in our hearts.
There is a long and emotionally tumultuous road ahead. But as Cris would surely say: “The only way out, is through.”
We love you, Cris.
