Critical, citizen-led Arctic climate & marine research
The Arctic Research Group (ARG), a UK-based charity, is seeking public support for a critical environmental research expedition to Tempelfjorden in the Svalbard archipelago, scheduled for summer 2025.
As pioneers of citizens’ High Arctic research, the ARG is dedicated to building on the foundational work initiated by its founders in early 1980s. We continue to advance important climate change studies, revisiting glacier ice and plant and bird population research first conducted almost four decades ago.
The expedition also plans to continue to work closely with Norwegian research groups to deepen investigations into marine plastic pollution of this fragile environment.
To carry out this ambitious project, the ARG needs to secure £15,000 to supplement the generous contributions already made by its team of dedicated volunteers. These funds are crucial for covering transportation, equipment and other logistical necessities.
In recent years, the work ARG volunteers have carried out has included studies on methane release from melting permafrost, mapping marine plastic pollution and conducting archaeological studies. By offering unrestricted access to our findings, we enable better decision-making and enhance environmental awareness.
Your contribution to our GoFundMe campaign will play a critical role in the success of the 2025 expedition and the ongoing efforts of ARG to protect the Arctic's fragile environment and deliver vital research.
Your support can make a difference.
