Critical Surgery for Princess
My dear friend Lynn has been leading the micro-pantries in Springfield, IL since the onset of COVID-19. She quickly had a woman reach out to donate a pantry. Her name is Kitty and she continues to assist with the pantries. She and her kids help Lynn fill them and never ask for anything in return. She is a hospice nurse and single mom. She lives simply and has mounting financial challenges. At the beginning of the pandemic Kitty’s 2 year old dog, Princess, developed a mass on her leg that has over taken the leg at the ankle. I am a veterinarian (non-practicing, I work in government now) and went to her house to examine Princes and the mass. I knew immediately that she needed a clinic and veterinarian who could perform surgery. I called on my previous colleague who has also examine Princess and we believe she has a nerve sheath tumor. This is a benign but aggressive and fast growing mass. Due to its rapid growth which has encompassed about 80% of the leg at the ankle, Princess requires leg amputation. This Go Fund Me will cover the following:
1. Initial exam, heartworm test, vaccines and flea treatment for Princess and the two other dogs ($473)
2. Surgery - estimate is $2,200
3. Follow up vaccine booster and exam - approx. $50
4. After totally healed I would likely to arrange for her and the other female dog to be spayed at APL (about $50 each.)
This total is $2,823. Item #1 occurred yesterday and I paid for this, so if we can raise $2650, I will have donated $173.
The funds raised will go from me to the clinic performing surgery and to the APL for spay after she is healed from leg amputation. I am not asking the clinic or my colleague for a discount. Veterinarians are doctors and their expertise deserves 100% compensation as does the support staff. The pandemic has hit many vet clinics hard. I want to do something kind for a woman who has done so much for Springfield despite having almost nothing. I also want to support my profession and give them full compensation, which they deserve. Please consider any monetary amount you can spare, and I appreciate each of you!!
