Croatia in Dub

A big dream.

I've always been driven by a deep desire to explore music as form of language in different parts of the world.
One of the main goal of my personal journey is to offer not just music but also the stories behind it: its origins, meanings and messages, from those who create it to those who receive it.

I've travelled and learned how to play different instruments from all around the world as best as I can but I've always felt a discrepancy between the realization of the greatest dream and its actual realization.

Now, with your help, I wish to take a further step toward realizing it.

Most of the time samples of instruments and voices from different cultures are uprooted from their context and used as a set of uncoordinated information to create a generic "world" feeling in electronic music. So I said to myself: let's try to move beyond this "cultural appropriation".

What is missing most of the times is give value to each culture.
So what if I focus on a single culture to delve deeper into the context in which the music is born, its own traditions, language, and instruments.
What if I support local music groups to record their own music and share it with other people from different countries?

What if I reinterpret their music in my own way?

In 2023, I met a female vocal ensemble from Zagreb called Čipkice and decided to share this ideas with them.

Together, we committed to create "Croatia in Dub".

With your help from at the beginning of November 2024 I'll travel to Croatia to meet them and record an album with the aim to release it in Spring 2025.

Your support will help us to:

  • Spend a week to work on the album with Čipkice in Zagreb;
  • Rent a music studio for two days to record five traditional songs that will be offer both in their original version and as remixes;
  • Pay croatian musicians to record folk instruments;
  • Provide professional mix and master;
  • Hire a local artists to create an artwork;
  • Cover expenses of promotion campaign;
  • Hire a video maker to record a live perfomance, interviews, recount the origin of each song and document the steps of the realization of this album.

More about How this concept was born:

The concept behind this release was born in 2018 with the release of "RAJASTHAN IN DUB ."

Rajasthan's traditional sounds fuse with world dub aesthetics and subtle overtones of psychedelic music to create an EP features two remixed folk songs from Rajasthan.
It was released by the UK-based label Outtallectuals in collaboration with Nicolò Melocchi, an Italian student of Hindustani music and Asha Sapera, a dancer and singer from the Kalbeliya tribe of Rajasthan.
This Ep was followed by the release of a third song called "Birda" in 2021.

In the autumn of 2022 "Baithak on the Farm" happened: a retreat where artists on invitation travelled to Assam in Northeast India, stayed together to share knowledge and create music.
There I met Gandharva brothers from Nepal and worked togheter to create the second chapter of this dream: " NEPAL IN DUB.
The first edition of the Baithak on the Farm was a joint effort of Kamakhya Records, Paat Halodhiya Farm, Madmuzik and Darjeeling Walks founders Anirban Dutta and Vaishali Sinha.
This EP features three remixed folk songs from Nepal and it includes the original folk version of each song and video report .
